1999-2000 Sunset Advisory Commission Review of the Former TNRCC

The former Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (TNRCC) underwent a review of its operations by the Sunset Advisory Commission.

Sunset Commission Decisions

The Sunset Advisory Commission voted in September 2000 to recommend that the TNRCC be continued for 12 years.

The Sunset Review Process

The Sunset Advisory Commission is an independent state agency composed of 10 members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor and the Speaker of the House. A series of evaluations and hearings that began in the summer of 1999 culminated in the Regular Session of 77th Texas Legislature in the spring of 2001.

The TNRCC was one of several state natural resource agencies undergoing a performance review by the Sunset Advisory Commission during that cycle, including the Texas Water Development Board, Railroad Commission of Texas and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
