NRG Energy, Inc.

NRG Energy’s battery storage system will be co-located and energized at the 150 MW Langford Wind Farm in Tom Green County. The battery storage project will use a “hybrid” battery of two distinct battery chemistries: lithium ion (solid) and flow (liquid). The “hybrid” system will be 7 MW / 9 MWh in total, consisting of 6 MW / 3MWh of Li-Ion and 1 MW / 6 MWH of flow. The unique “hybrid” system will utilize the zero-emission energy generation from the wind farm to charge the batteries and then discharge to the ERCOT market during peak demand hours when load support is needed the most.

Pedernales Electric Cooperative, Inc.

Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) operates within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) power system. PEC has developed the Pedernales Energy Storage Automation & Management with Solar (PESAMS). This system integrates the use of 2MW-4MW batteries that are charged using a Solar PV Array. Solar energy is stored in the batteries and then discharged/shifted to provide predictable and reliable energy to PEC members in rural areas of the Texas Hill Country during peak load demand times (3pm -7pm) when costs for using electricity is the highest.
