Ten high school student artists from across Texas gathered today in Austin along with their families and teacher sponsors for the Drive a Clean Machine Logo Contest awards ceremony hosted by state Sen. Kip Averitt (R-Waco), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources.

The Drive a Clean Machine Logo Contest invited public, private and home-schooled students in grades 9-12 to design a logo for the state's Drive a Clean Machine program. This program seeks to bring non-attainment areas back into compliance with federal environmental guidelines by partnering with qualifying Texans who want to purchase a new car and help clean-up our air. Clean air is a major source of concern for all Texans, and mobile emissions produced by old cars are the primary source of NOx (the pollutant we must reduce to meet federal ozone standards) in our state's non-attainment areas.

The stakeholder-based Drive a Clean Machine Logo Contest Awards Committee chose the following top ten winners from the over four hundred logos submitted by Texas students:

Place Student Teacher School City
1 Justin Bennett Julie Weatherly Belton High School Belton
