The TCEQ evaluates measurements of toxic chemicals in air collected
from ambient-air
monitoring sites around the state. Toxicology personnel
evaluate these measured chemical concentrations for their potential
to cause health effects and odors. These evaluations are designed
to help the agency focus its resources. Although the evaluations
may present theoretical estimates of risks to health, they are not
designed as comprehensive assessments of individual health risks.

Types of Data Evaluated
Types of data available from the various monitoring networks may
include:
- Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from 24-hour canister samples
collected every sixth day
- VOCs from 40-minute samples collected each hour by automatic
gas chromatographs
- VOCs from one-hour canister samples collected at various times
of the day during the ozone season
- Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from 24-hour sorbent
samples collected every sixth day
- Carbonyls from 24-hour sorbent samples collected every sixth
day
- Metals from 24-hour PM2.5,
PM10, and TSP filter samples
collected, depending on the sampler, every third or sixth day
