About the Advisory Group
The Oso Bay advisory group provides advice and comment to the
TCEQ on its projects to improve water quality in the watersheds of
Oso Bay and Oso Creek in Nueces County. Participation is voluntary,
and committee members represent government, facilities subject to
permit, agriculture, business, and environmental and community
interests in the watershed. Anyone who is interested may attend
meetings of this advisory group. Time is set aside at each meeting
for questions and comments from all stakeholders in attendance.
The TCEQ initiated the project for Oso Bay and Oso Creek in
September 2004. In March 2006, the TCEQ separated the development
of the TMDLs for the bay and the creek, with the advice and consent
of the stakeholder advisory group. The TCEQ adopted the Oso Bay
TMDL on August 22, 2007 and the EPA approved it in June 2008.
At this time, additional studies of bacteria sources and
quantities are underway in the Oso Creek watershed. TMDL
development for the creek will proceed, as those studies provide
sufficient information, in coordination with the Texas State Soil
and Water Conservation Board. Find out
more about the Oso Bay Bacteria Project.
