What Is Air Dispersion Modeling?

Air Dispersion Modeling assists the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in meeting its goal of clean air for the citizens of Texas through the use of modeling as a tool for evaluating the impact of atmospheric emissions on air quality. This is accomplished through modeling support to the permitting process, the use of modeling to assist in the development of pollutant control strategies, and the performance of special modeling studies.

The Air Dispersion Modeling Team performs four primary functions:

  • Provides modeling support to the permitting process to help ensure that applicants comply with state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Conducts modeling for special studies in response to local, state, or federal initiatives.
  • Conducts modeling in support of the development of control strategies for pollutants.
  • Conducts modeling in support of the permitting process.
