Rules for Spill Cleanups

Information on cleanup levels and requirements for spills.

Regulations addressing spills are in 30 TAC Chapter 327, with required actions given in 30 TAC 327.5 .

In general, spills must be cleaned up to background or prerelease conditions. For spills requiring more than 180 days to clean up, the cleanup requirements are specified in the Texas Risk Reduction (TRRP) program rules of 30 TAC Chapter 350, which became effective on September 23, 1999. Prior to that date, spills requiring more than 180 days to clean up had to meet the requirements of the Risk Reduction Standards of 30 TAC Chapter 335 Subchapter S.
